The Labour Party governorship candidate in Anambra State, George Moghalu, has declared that Governor Chukwuma Soludo is aware he will not secure re-election in the forthcoming November 8 poll.

Moghalu, who recalled his first attempt at the governorship in 2003 under the platform of the defunct All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), said Soludo backed him at the time and even made financial contributions to his campaign.

He said the governor’s past support was proof that Soludo once believed in his capacity to govern and to win elections, noting that he polled over 179,000 votes in that election, second only to Peter Obi’s 230,000.

The LP candidate insisted that Soludo’s performance in office and the rising popularity of the Labour Party in Anambra would count against him in the November contest.

“In 2003, when I first ran for governor on the platform of ANPP, Governor Soludo supported me and even donated generously to my campaign. That showed he believed not only in my ability to govern but also in my capacity to win. I went on to secure over 179,000 votes, second only to Peter Obi, who scored over 230,000,” Moghalu stated.

He added: “Governor Soludo, more than anyone else on the ballot, knows my capacity as both an administrator and a politician. Deep down, he knows he will not return as governor after the November 8 election, largely because of the acceptability of our party in the state, his poor performance in office, and my personal capacity to match and surpass him on the field.”
