The Federal Government has declared that Nigeria is on the right path under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the nation marks its 65th Independence anniversary.

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, and the Minister of Information, Mohammed Idris, made the remarks on Monday at a World Press Conference in Abuja.

Senator Akume said Independence Day offers Nigerians an opportunity for reflection. He noted that since 1960, the country’s journey has been marked by both trials and triumphs, stressing that the Nigerian spirit remains unbroken.

“It is important to remind ourselves that Independence Day is more than a ceremonial date but a day to reflect on how far we have come as a people. A journey from 1960 to this moment has been marked by trials and triumphs, moments of joy and pestilence, but the Nigerian spirit has remained high and unbrothered,” Akume said.

Inflation Declined Under Tinubu

Minister Idris, in his remarks, pointed to the easing of inflationary pressures, which stood at 21.12 per cent, falling food prices, naira stability, and rising external reserves as indicators that the nation is on the right track.

He also highlighted improved oil production, increased revenue to states, and other gains as evidence of what he described as “remarkable reforms” under the Tinubu administration.

“In the last 65 years, Nigeria has witnessed extraordinary economic and political growth,” Idris said, adding that the President “has uprooted hindrances to Nigeria’s progress.”

According to him, President Tinubu is laying the foundation for national renewal anchored on prosperity, peace, and unity. He urged citizens to continue to support the President’s Renewed Hope agenda.

The theme for this year’s Independence anniversary is Nigeria 65: All Hands on Deck for a Greater Nation.”
