Speaking at the closing ceremony, the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr Goodluck Ubochi, charged the new teachers to be agents of transformation in their respective schools. He emphasised the importance of professional ethics, modern teaching techniques, and a learner-focused mindset.

“The training was designed to properly equip you with modern techniques, skills, ethical standards, and the right mindset for effective service delivery,” Ubochi said.

He noted that the programme marked a significant milestone in their professional journey, urging them to apply the knowledge gained to foster a more robust and dynamic classroom experience.

“Don’t let this opportunity get into your head. Many of the people you will be working with trained some of you here. Show humility and learn continuously,” he cautioned.

The ERIT Aba Zone Lead, Mr Victor Oko, also addressed the new recruits, encouraging them to embrace student-centred learning and to see themselves as classroom leaders and role models.

“You are no longer just individuals looking for jobs. You are now promoters of progressive, student-centred learning strategies,” he said.

The State Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Mr Friday Madu, lauded the state government for the initiative, noting that it had laid a strong professional foundation for the newly recruited educators.

“This training has placed you on a firm footing. The expectations are high, and you must deliver,” he stated.

Speaking on behalf of the newly trained teachers, Ms Ogechukwu Okonkwo expressed gratitude to the state government and organisers, pledging their collective commitment to upholding professional standards and justifying the trust placed in them.
