APC Senator says four years not enough t transform Nigeria if eight years Anambra fell short
Former Edo State governor and Senator representing Edo North, Adams Oshiomhole, has questioned Peter Obi’s promise to transform Nigeria within a single four-year term if elected president in 2027.
Speaking on TVC’s Beyond the Headlines programme on Monday, Oshiomhole argued that Obi’s pledge lacked credibility, insisting that the former Anambra State governor did not accomplish all he set out to achieve during his eight years in office.
He said it was unrealistic for Obi to promise to fix Nigeria in one term when, according to him, he was unable to fully deliver on his agenda in Anambra State.
“Do you really believe that anybody whose business is for real, who couldn’t fix a state in four years, he worked hard in eight years, he didn’t fix it… is telling you and me at our age that he just needs four years? That is the height of desperation,” Oshiomhole said.
Questions Over Obi’s Background and Political Record
The APC senator also criticised Obi’s business background, describing him as a trader whose focus, he claimed, is on short-term gains rather than long-term national planning.

According to Oshiomhole, traders are driven by immediate returns instead of the long-term projections needed to govern a country.
He further alleged that Obi’s business interests encouraged importation at the expense of local production, claiming such activities exported jobs and increased unemployment.
Oshiomhole also questioned Obi’s political consistency, recalling that the former governor had once pledged to remain in the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) because of its association with the late Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, but later left the party after completing his tenure as governor.
Defends Tinubu’s Reforms
The former Nigeria Labour Congress president defended President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms, saying the administration was taking difficult but necessary decisions to reposition the economy.
He likened the reforms to a surgical operation, arguing that although they were painful, they were designed to produce long-term benefits.
“Bola Ahmed Tinubu is someone who believes that for your tomorrow, we must do certain things today, painful as it may be,” he said.
Oshiomhole’s remarks come as political activities gather momentum ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Obi has repeatedly maintained that, if elected, one four-year term would be enough to lay the foundation for Nigeria’s transformation.
