Former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, on Friday met behind closed doors with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) vice-presidential candidate, Rotimi Amaechi, at his residence in Abuja.

The purpose of the meeting was not disclosed, and neither Malami nor Amaechi addressed journalists after the talks.

The meeting comes a day after Amaechi visited former Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal, in Abuja, as the ADC intensifies consultations ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Following his meeting with Amaechi on Thursday, Tambuwal congratulated the former Rivers State governor on his emergence as the ADC’s vice-presidential candidate.

He described Amaechi as an experienced public servant whose commitment to democratic values would strengthen the party’s efforts ahead of the polls.

Tambuwal said their discussions centred on the task of building a broad-based political platform capable of providing purposeful leadership for the country.

“Our meeting provided another opportunity to reflect on the enormous responsibility before us as we work with other patriotic Nigerians to build a broad, united and credible platform capable of restoring hope, strengthening our democracy and offering our people the purposeful leadership they deserve,” he said.

Court Judgment Boosts ADC

Tambuwal also welcomed the Federal High Court judgment affirming the leadership of the Senator David Mark-led National Working Committee of the ADC, describing the ruling as a victory for the rule of law and constitutional democracy.

According to him, the judgment has removed uncertainty over the party’s leadership and will allow the ADC to concentrate on strengthening its internal structures and presenting Nigerians with what it describes as a credible alternative ahead of the 2027 elections.

Atiku-Amaechi Ticket

Amaechi was recently unveiled as the running mate to the ADC’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, for the 2027 presidential election.

The party has also submitted the names of Atiku and Amaechi to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) through its nomination portal in preparation for next year’s election.
