Former presidential candidate and publisher, Dele Momodu, has officially joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Momodu announced his decision on Thursday in Benin City, the Edo State capital, while addressing supporters and members of the party.

Speaking at the event, Momodu said his move was driven by a desire to promote the interests of the people, stressing that he was not seeking any elective office in the state.

According to him, his return to active participation in the political process was rooted in his personal history and long-standing commitment to his community.

“And I came home for the first time and I coordinated everything. It took me over 50 years of excruciating hard work and meticulous planning to establish a home from my modest income in Iwe,” Momodu said.

He added, “So today, nobody can say Dele has no roots in Iwe. Today, I am standing before you, my friends, as I humbly reintegrate myself into the political process of my state.”

Momodu further dismissed speculations about his political ambition, noting that he was not interested in contesting for positions such as governor or senator.

“People have asked me what I want. Do I want to be governor or senator? No. I just want to promote the best interests of our people,” he said.

His defection to the ADC comes amid ongoing political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
