The development was confirmed in a statement issued on Wednesday by her media aide, Kennedy Mbele, who said the move marked Kingibe’s exit from the Labour Party (LP) and her formal entry into the ADC.

According to the statement, the registration ceremony will be attended by senior officials of the party, ADC candidates contesting the February 21 FCT area council elections, party supporters and members of the media.

Mbele said the decision makes Kingibe the only serving senator in what he described as a growing opposition party.

“Kingibe’s bold step of joining the ADC makes her the only serving senator in the new but vibrant opposition party,” the statement added.

Kingibe’s defection comes ahead of the 2027 general elections, amid ongoing realignments within the country’s political landscape.
