The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has rolled out an update to its passport tracking system aimed at improving transparency and addressing persistent delays in passport collection.
The Service announced the development on Thursday via its official X handle, explaining that the update became necessary following the discovery that hundreds of already produced passports remained uncollected, leading to increasing complaints from applicants nationwide.

According to the NIS, the new update introduces a clearer status feature tagged “Produced (Passport Produced, Ready for Collection)”, which enables applicants to know precisely when their passports are available for pickup.
The enhancement improves the existing tracking platform by providing more detailed information on passport processing stages, including passports that have been produced and are awaiting physical collection, as well as those produced but pending delivery through courier services.
The Service noted that the update is expected to reduce uncertainty, improve applicant experience, and allow individuals to better manage their collection timelines.

Reaffirming its commitment to improved service delivery, the NIS stated that the initiative forms part of ongoing reforms to build a more efficient, transparent, and technology-driven passport issuance system in line with global best practices.
