Why Wike is yet to be Sanctioned – PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has explained why it has not sanctioned former Rivers State governor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, over alleged anti-party activities.
The party said it cannot punish any member without a formal petition backed by evidence.
PDP Deputy National Legal Adviser, Barrister Okechukwu Osuoha, told journalists in Abuja that the party set up a disciplinary committee at its last National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting. The committee, chaired by Chief Tom Ikimi with Eyitayo Jegede (SAN) as secretary, is responsible for handling cases of misconduct.

No Basis For Action
Osuoha said no member has faced any sanction because no one has submitted a formal petition.
“People often ask me about the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike. They want to know why we don’t discipline him. I tell them it is not enough to say someone has committed an offence. A petition must be submitted to the disciplinary committee,” he explained.

He added that anyone who files a petition must also testify and present evidence when the accused appears before the committee.
“When you write a petition, you must also come forward to testify. If the accused is invited, you must present your evidence. General allegations are not enough,” Osuoha said.
Wider Governance Challenge
The PDP legal adviser noted that the party’s experience reflects broader issues in Nigeria’s governance system.
“This is the same problem we face in the larger Nigerian system. It is not just about identifying anomalies; the challenge is pursuing them to a logical conclusion,” he stated.
