President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Tuesday inaugurated the new Corporate Headquarters of the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) in Abuja, charging the agency to uphold trust, fairness, and accountability as Nigeria advances its fiscal reform programme.
Speaking at the ceremony, the President said the NRS must earn public confidence and international respect through transparent and efficient revenue administration.
“You must embody trust and ensure fairness and demonstrate that government can be accountable, responsive and earn confidence at home and respect abroad,” he said.
Tinubu described the project as a landmark in Nigeria’s drive to strengthen public institutions and modernise the revenue system, noting that it represents more than a physical structure but a symbol of institutional renewal and national transformation.
He said the commissioning formally marks the transition from the Federal Inland Revenue Service to the restructured Nigeria Revenue Service, in line with broader fiscal and governance reforms.
The President stressed that Nigeria cannot achieve sustainable prosperity with a weak and fragmented revenue system, adding that ongoing reforms are aimed at strengthening economic stability, boosting investor confidence, and reinforcing national reserves.
According to him, the reform programme is already yielding positive results, reflected in improved macroeconomic stability and growing confidence in Nigeria’s economic outlook.
Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to building a transparent, efficient, and accountable revenue system capable of supporting long-term national development, while strengthening institutions and improving public service delivery.
The new headquarters is expected to serve as a central hub for improved tax administration and more efficient revenue collection under the restructured agency.
The commissioning also marks a key milestone following the enactment of the Nigeria Tax Act 2025 and the Nigeria Tax Administration Act 2025, which transformed the former Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) into the Nigeria Revenue Service with an expanded mandate covering tax and non-tax revenue coordination.
The reforms, which were widely debated at the National Assembly before passage, form part of the administration’s broader fiscal policy drive to improve revenue mobilisation, enhance efficiency, and strengthen compliance.

According to the NRS Executive Chairman, NRS Executive Chairman, Dr. Zacch Adedeji, who delivered the welcome address, described the commissioning as a milestone in ongoing efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s revenue administration, expand the tax base, and improve service delivery.
He said the new headquarters a modern three-tower complex designed to accommodate over 3,000 personnel provides the infrastructure needed to modernise fiscal administration and improve operational efficiency.
Dr. Adedeji added that the agency, with over 18,000 personnel globally, plays a central role in revenue legislation and implementation across the country.
The event featured goodwill messages from Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, and the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, represented by Minister of State for Finance Taiwo Oyedele, alongside other top government officials and private sector stakeholders.
A documentary titled “The Journey to NRS” was also screened, chronicling the transformation from the former Federal Inland Revenue Service structure to the newly established institution.
The commissioning underscores the administration’s broader push to reposition Nigeria’s fiscal system through institutional reform, expanded tax coverage, improved compliance, and stronger accountability in public finance management.
