President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commissioned the Corporate Headquarters of the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) in Abuja, marking a defining moment in the Federal Government’s push to overhaul the country’s revenue generation system.
The high-profile ceremony brought together top political leaders, including Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, and Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu.
Also in attendance were Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume and National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, alongside members of the Federal Executive Council and governors under the Nigeria Governors’ Forum led by AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.
The newly inaugurated complex described as a world-class facility comprises three towers rising 16 floors, with the capacity to house about 3,000 personnel, positioning it as a central hub for Nigeria’s evolving revenue administration.

The commissioning also heralds the full transition from the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) to the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS), a major institutional reform aimed at strengthening fiscal governance.
President Tinubu had, in June 2025, signed the Nigeria Revenue Service (Establishment) Act, formally transforming FIRS into NRS, with the rebranding taking effect from January 1, 2026. The reform is expected to modernise tax administration, harmonise revenue collection, and improve efficiency across the system.
Under the leadership of Executive Chairman Zacch Adedeji, the agency is set to prioritise digitalisation, enhance taxpayer experience, and simplify compliance processes in line with global best practices.
Other dignitaries present included Senators Ned Nwoko, Abdulaziz Yari, Abba Moro, and Ahmed Wadada.
Governors Caleb Mutfwang, Charles Soludo, Usman Ododo, Babagana Zulum, and Hope Uzodimma were also in attendance, alongside the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
The event further attracted members of the diplomatic corps and key private sector figures, including Tony Elumelu and Zenith Bank Chief Executive Officer Adaora Umeoji, reflecting broad stakeholder support for the reform initiative.
The inauguration signals the government’s renewed commitment to boosting revenue mobilisation and building a more transparent and efficient tax system to support Nigeria’s economic growth.
