Ambode Backs Tinubu’s 2027 Re-Election, Denies Defection Rumours

By Rafiyat Sadiq

Former Lagos State Governor Akinwunmi Ambode has pledged his support for the re-election of President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections, dismissing reports that he plans to defect from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

In a statement posted on his X handle on Sunday, Ambode said another four years for President Tinubu after 2027 would bring further progress and achievements for the country.

“As we look toward the 2027 general elections, I remain steadfast in my commitment to supporting President Tinubu’s re-election. I am confident that, with another four years, Nigerians will have more reasons to celebrate our collective progress. My dedication to his vision and aspirations for our nation remains unwavering,” Ambode stated.

The former governor attached to his post a screenshot of a fabricated message claiming he intended to contest the Lagos governorship election on the ADC platform. He described the claim as false and politically motivated.

Ambode’s political rift with Tinubu in 2018, which cost him a second term in office, has long fuelled speculation about his political allegiance. His latest statement appears aimed at putting such speculation to rest.

With the 2027 polls approaching, the political climate across the country is intensifying, as political alignments and defections gather pace.
