Enugu State is set to launch Enugu Air on Monday, July 7, marking a major step in Governor Peter Mbah’s plan to make Enugu a key aviation hub in Nigeria.
The State Commissioner for Transportation, Dr Obi Ozor, announced the launch in a statement on Thursday.
He said the airline supports the state’s multimodal transport vision and aims to improve air travel in Nigeria.
Currently, only one state in Nigeria, Akwa Ibom, owns and operates a state-owned airline called Ibom Air. While other states like Lagos are exploring the possibility of launching their own airlines, they have not yet established operational carriers.
The launch event will take place at Akanu Ibiam International Airport. The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr Festus Keyamo, SAN, will attend as the Special Guest of Honour. Several dignitaries from across Nigeria will also be present.

Enugu Air Begins with Modern Embraer Jets
Enugu Air will start with three Embraer aircraft: E170 and E190 models. These planes offer fuel efficiency, comfort, and smooth regional operations.
The airline will open with a “golden triangle” route, connecting Enugu, Abuja, and Lagos. It will later expand to cities like Port Harcourt, Owerri, Benin, and Kano.
Dr Ozor explained that the airline reflects Enugu’s commitment to innovation, sustainability, and regional growth.
“We are ready to redefine air travel in Nigeria and give Enugu a global presence,” he said. “Let the countdown begin; Enugu Air is ready for takeoff.”
