Operate with Discipline, Keyamo Tells Enugu Air
Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has endorsed the newly launched Enugu Air, urging its operators to uphold professionalism, maintain strict discipline, and embrace strong private sector participation for sustainable growth.
Speaking at the formal unveiling of the airline in Enugu, Keyamo confirmed that the project has received backing from several government institutions, including the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), the Ministry of Rehabilitation, and the National Assembly Committee on Aviation.
“The process is supported by all arms of government. We are now at the final stage of handing over the airline’s headquarters to private investors who will fully activate its operations,” the minister stated.
Enugu Air to Boost Economy, Create Jobs
Keyamo highlighted the airline’s potential to drive economic development, especially in job creation and improved transportation links across the country.
He emphasised that Enugu’s Akanu Ibiam International Airport already ranks as Nigeria’s fifth busiest airport by passenger traffic, a fact that places Enugu in a strong position on the national aviation map.

Avoid Pitfalls of the Past, Minister Warns
In a firm tone, Keyamo warned against the mismanagement and political meddling that derailed former national airlines.
“Don’t let Enugu Air end up like Nigerian Airways. Run it professionally. Be prompt. If the governor is two minutes late, shut the aircraft door and take off,” he said to loud applause.
He stressed that ticketing should be strictly professional:
“No free tickets for friends. If you want the airline to thrive, Enugu people must support it by buying tickets and showing up on time.”

Plans for Regional Flights Underway
Keyamo revealed that Enugu Air’s regional operations would soon be approved, enabling the airline to connect with other African destinations.
“I just whispered to the governor that we’ll approve regional operations very soon. Enugu will soon become a regional aviation hub,” he said.
He further pledged to help secure aircraft from global sources, offering his personal guarantees without expecting any returns.
“I will personally help you source aircraft globally. I will give my own guarantees to support this initiative, and I won’t ask for anything in return.”
Governor Mbah: “This is a Dream Come True”
Enugu State Governor, Dr Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, hailed the launch as a landmark moment for the state’s development agenda.
“Enugu Air is a dream come true. It aligns with our administration’s goal to position Enugu as a commercial and logistics hub,” Mbah noted.
The governor thanked the federal government and Minister Keyamo for their vision and support. He also reiterated his commitment to sustaining a business-friendly environment for investors.
“This is not just about aviation. It’s about rewriting the story of Enugu State. And I am proud we are doing this together,” he said.

With Akanu Ibiam International Airport already ranked as the fifth busiest in the country, Enugu Air is expected to further raise the state’s profile in both regional and continental aviation. Stakeholders anticipate that the airline will catalyse economic growth and improve air travel accessibility in the Southeast and beyond.
