The National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Samuel Anyanwu, has cautioned the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, against making statements capable of misleading the public or creating divisions within the party.

Ologunagba had reportedly claimed that the National Secretary’s duties were confined to administrative functions such as managing day-to-day activities, handling correspondence, and implementing directives from the party leadership.

He also maintained that the National Secretary lacked the authority to summon meetings or issue press statements without prior approval, a comment that sparked criticism within party circles.

Anyanwu Describes Statement as “Ignorant and Ridiculous”

Reacting through his media aide, Dr Ikenna Onuoha, Senator Anyanwu dismissed Ologunagba’s remarks as “ridiculous and ignorant”, saying the comments misrepresented the constitutional role of the National Secretary.

Dr Onuoha said Ologunagba’s statement reflected a poor understanding of the PDP Constitution and the functions assigned to the office of the National Secretary.

He stated, “This statement, if indeed it came from a supposed party spokesperson, shows that he lacks proper knowledge of the provisions of the PDP Constitution regarding the duties, functions, and responsibilities of the National Secretary.

Hon. Debo Ologunagba, who should be speaking for the party, failed to cite Section 36(1) of the PDP Constitution (2017 as amended), which clearly defines the duties of the National Secretary, because he was merely out to cause mischief.”

Calls for Unity and Focus

Onuoha stressed that Senator Anyanwu’s role is far broader than Ologunagba portrayed and that all his actions are guided by the party’s constitution.

He urged Ologunagba to focus on promoting internal unity and developing constructive strategies that would strengthen the PDP ahead of future elections rather than engaging in divisive rhetoric.

The statement added that despite persistent provocations, Senator Anyanwu remains committed to acting with maturity and upholding his oath to protect the unity and integrity of the party.
