Hon. Muhammad Sanni Gambo has emerged as the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kogi State after his swearing in at the PDP State Secretariat in Lokoja.

Speaking shortly after his swearing-in, Gambo described Kogi as a traditional PDP stronghold and called for unity among members to restore the party’s dominance in the state.

He pledged to reposition the party for victory ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“A Collective Victory for All”

Hon. Gambo said his emergence as chairman was a victory for all party faithful and expressed confidence that the PDP would reclaim power both in Kogi State and at the national level.

“I consider my emergence as chairman a victory for all. Working together with renewed vigour and focus, we will not only take back Lugard House but also contribute to returning PDP to Aso Rock in 2027,” he declared.

He thanked leaders and elders of the PDP at home and in the diaspora for their unwavering support during what he described as a trying period for the party.

Gambo also commended the judiciary for standing by the truth, describing it as “the last hope of the common man.”

Plans to Rebuild and Unite the Party

Gambo disclosed that he had developed a comprehensive blueprint to reposition the PDP in Kogi State, promising to operate an open-door policy that would accommodate ideas and initiatives from all members.

“As chairman, I will lead from the front and confront challenges head-on. I pledge my total commitment and steadfastness in taking Kogi PDP to an enviable height,” he assured.

He noted that several former members who left the party had signalled their readiness to return, while discussions were ongoing with members of other political parties willing to join the PDP.

Gambo appealed to aggrieved members to put aside past grievances and join hands with him to rebuild the party, stressing that unity was key to future success.

Commends Party Leaders and Supporters

The PDP chairman commended former governors Alhaji Ibrahim Idris and Capt. Idris Ichalla Wada for their steadfastness and praised Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan for her exemplary leadership, describing her as “a shining light and a beacon of hope.”

He also expressed gratitude to supporters who stood by him during his legal battle, assuring them that his administration would “hit the ground running” to make Kogi PDP stronger and more vibrant.

“To my executive members and elders of our great party, I seek your cooperation. I cannot do it alone. Together, we will rebuild this party and restore the people’s confidence,” he said.

Court Affirms Gambo’s Election

Hon. Gambo’s swearing-in followed a judgement by the Federal High Court sitting in Lokoja, which affirmed him as the duly elected Chairman of the PDP in Kogi State and ordered his immediate swearing-in.

Delivering judgement in suit No. FRC/LKJ/CS/39/2024, Justice Isah A. Danshan ruled that Gambo was the legitimate winner of the August 31, 2024, PDP congress and directed the party’s national leadership and security agencies to recognise and enforce his leadership.

The court found that the previously declared winner, Enemona Anyebe, had been barred from contesting in the congress.

After examining INEC-certified results, the judge declared that Gambo, who secured the majority of valid votes, was the duly elected chairman.

Justice Danshan also dismissed a joinder suit filed by Tony Amego, describing it as lacking merit and undemocratic.

Reacting to the judgement, Hon. Gambo described it as a “no victor, no vanquished” situation, emphasising that the victory was for all members of the PDP in Kogi State.
