The vice-presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Musa Rabiu Kwankwaso, has faulted the inclusion of Zacch Adedeji, executive chairman of the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS), and Taminu Yakubu, director-general of the Budget Office of the Federation, in the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign council for the 2027 elections.
Kwankwaso urged Nigerians to reject what he described as “continued oppression” and demand accountable, people-oriented governance.
The former Kano State governor spoke in a statement on Sunday, following the unveiling of the APC’s 108-member presidential campaign council for President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid.
The APC appointed former Zamfara State Governor Abdulaziz Yari as director-general of the campaign council, while Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma was named secretary.
Yakubu was appointed treasurer of the campaign council, while Adedeji was named deputy director of fundraising.
Kwankwaso questioned the involvement of the two senior public officials in partisan campaign activities, saying it could undermine public confidence in the neutrality of the institutions they lead.
“The leadership of critical public institutions demands neutrality, integrity and public confidence. It is therefore legitimate to ask whether the responsibilities of senior officials entrusted with managing public revenue and national finances can appropriately coexist with senior partisan campaign roles,” he said.

He said the composition of the APC campaign council should concern Nigerians, particularly amid rising food prices and the increasing cost of basic necessities.
Kwankwaso also cited unemployment, insecurity and pressure on education, healthcare and other essential public services as challenges facing the country.
He appealed to Yari to “reflect deeply and reconsider his acceptance” of the director-general position.
According to him, Yari, as a former governor of Zamfara State and a prominent leader in the North-West, understands the effects of insecurity, poverty, unemployment, displacement and destruction of livelihoods in the region.
“I therefore will be surprised if, in his good conscience, he will lead a campaign whose principal objective is to secure the continuation of a government under which many of the people he once governed, and other innocent Nigerians, remain trapped in these challenges,” he said.
Kwankwaso urged Nigerians to reject what he called “continued oppression” and demand a government that is accountable and people-oriented.
He described the 2027 general election as “a struggle between the oppressed Nigerian masses and those who have benefited from, defended and sustained the system responsible for their hardship.”
