Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has urged judges to consider the broader impact of their judgments on the country and uphold integrity in the administration of justice.
Fubara made the call on Saturday at the 66th annual conference of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
The governor said political manipulation, undue delays and brazen corruption had damaged the reputation of Nigeria’s judiciary.
He warned that technicalities, political interference and unnecessary delays should not become serious obstacles to the administration of justice.
Fubara described the judiciary as essential to democracy and good governance, saying the courts should not only resolve disputes but also serve as a refuge for every citizen, including ordinary Nigerians.

According to him, the quality of justice delivered by the courts is linked to law and order as well as the country’s development.
“The courts are not merely venues for resolving social disputes. They serve as the ultimate refuge for all, including the common man like myself,” Fubara said.
He urged judges not to become “mere apologists or conformists,” stressing that they must remain guardians of democracy, the rule of law, peace and good governance.
Fubara also called for greater integrity in the judiciary to restore public confidence and ensure justice is delivered without political manipulation, corruption or unnecessary delays.
