Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has dismissed allegations made against him by activist Omoyele Sowore, saying there is no law preventing him from owning property in the United States.
Wike stated this on Monday during his monthly media chat in Abuja, where he warned against the spread of unverified claims about public officials.
The minister said Sowore had circulated claims alleging he owns houses in Florida, challenging him to provide evidence to support the allegation.
According to Wike, such accusations amount to misinformation and should not be taken as credible activism.
Call Against Rumour-Mongering
He cautioned against what he described as peddling of rumours against government officials, insisting that accountability must be based on facts.
“Sowore comes and sells all kinds of stories to you. Up till now, why hasn’t he talked about the houses he claims I have in Florida? Where is it till today?” he said.

Wike maintained that there is no legal restriction preventing him from owning property anywhere in the world, although he denied owning any house in the United States.
“You can’t begin to peddle rumours against government officials; it’s not correct. There is no law that says I shouldn’t own a house anywhere. However, I don’t have a house there,” he stated.
The minister urged the public to rely on verified information rather than unsubstantiated claims.
