Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has ordered the immediate arrest of the owner and contractor of the collapsed Ugo West Hotel in Jikwoyi, Abuja.
Wike gave the directive on Tuesday during a visit to the site of the building, which was still under construction before it collapsed, trapping several workers.
The minister described the incident as unacceptable, attributing it to negligence and substandard construction practices.

Emergency responders, alongside residents, were seen at the scene carrying out rescue operations to save those trapped under the rubble.
Wike directed security agencies to apprehend all those responsible without delay, warning that the FCT Administration would not tolerate violations of building regulations.
He also assured that a full investigation would be conducted to determine the cause of the collapse, stressing that anyone found culpable would face the full weight of the law.
