Amid internal power struggle, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) received a major win over the weekend as more than 10,000 members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), African Democratic Congress (ADC), Labour Party (LP) and other parties have decamped to the Party in Ogbadibo Local Government Area of Benue State.

The mass defection took place on Saturday during rallies held across the three districts of Owukpa, Orokam and Otukpa, where the new members were received by the Senate Minority Leader, Senator Abba Moro, and the Benue State PDP Chairman, Ezekiel Adaji.

Among the defectors were key Labour Party figures, including the Women Leader in the area, Mrs Agnes Apeh, as well as CSP Onah Amedu (rtd), Abel Akoh of AA Dominion, and other LP leaders who announced the collapse of their structures into the PDP at Otukpa.

The defectors said their decision was driven by what they described as Senator Moro’s people-focused leadership and quality representation.

They commended his legislative contributions and projects, which they said were “visible even to the blind,” adding that the achievements influenced their resolve to support his 2027 re-election bid.

Speaking on behalf of the group, CSP Onah Amedu (rtd) explained that they were convinced by the senator’s track record in Benue South.

“We have seen what Senator Abba Moro has done and what he continues to do for our people.

His projects and legislative efforts are visible to the young and old.

We have therefore decided to join hands with him in the PDP to move Ogbadibo forward and ensure he returns to the Senate in 2027. Our support is total,” he said.

At the rally, the people of Ogbadibo passed a unanimous vote of confidence in Senator Moro and endorsed him as their preferred candidate for the 2027 Benue South Senatorial election.

Receiving the new members, Senator Moro thanked the defectors for what he called “the right decision in the right direction,” assuring them of equal opportunity, fairness and full integration into the PDP.

He dismissed rumours that he planned to defect to the APC, stressing that he remains firmly rooted in the PDP.
