Voters across Osun State on Saturday, August 15, 2026, turned out to elect the next governor of the state across 30 Local Government Areas in a keenly contested governorship election involving 14 candidates.
The election, conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), is taking place across the 30 local government areas of the state.
Osun has about 2.3 million registered voters, with at least 1.9 million residents expected to participate in the election.
Accreditation and voting officially began at 8:30 a.m. after INEC deployed election materials to polling units across the state.
Governor Ademola Adeleke, who is seeking another term on the platform of the Accord Party, cast his ballot at Abogunde Comprehensive 009, Ward 02, Abogunde Sagba, Ede North.
Adeleke arrived at the polling unit at about 8:36 a.m. for accreditation and later voted at 9:10 a.m.
Disagreement Over Ballot Papers
At Iroyin Ayo Open Space Polling Unit 013, Elejigbo D/Elejemo Ward, Ejigbo Local Government Area, party agents demanded that presiding officers count all the ballot papers before voting commenced.
The presiding officers declined, explaining that counting all the ballot papers could delay the commencement of voting.

The polling unit has 594 registered voters and is also the polling unit of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate, Najeem Salam.
Early Voter Turnout
Voters began arriving at polling units across the state before the official commencement of voting.
At Sabo Agbongbe II, Ward 7, Polling Units 001 and 011 in Ede Local Government Area, voting cubicles and other election materials had been arranged by 7:50 a.m.
Some voters waited for the process to begin, while others checked their names on the voters’ register displayed at the polling units.
Similar scenes were recorded at Egbedore Ward, Abogunde Primary School polling unit, and Unit 7, Oke-Oja, Osogbo, where voters gathered as INEC officials prepared for accreditation and voting.
Election materials reportedly began arriving at polling locations from about 7:00 a.m. as INEC commenced distribution across the state.
An elderly woman was also among voters who participated in the election in Osogbo.
The election is expected to continue through voting, counting and collation before INEC announces the final result and declares the winner.
