The Niger State Independent Electoral Commission (NSIEC) has declared the All Progressives Congress (APC) winner of all 25 chairmanship positions in Saturday’s local government elections held across the state.
In a statement released to journalists and signed by the Commissioner for Operations, Barrister Mohammed Liman, the commission confirmed that all Returning Officers had completed the collation and declaration of results in line with electoral laws and operational guidelines.
Liman said the commission, after reviewing reports from all local councils, ratified the results, confirming the victory of APC candidates in every chairmanship contest.
“The elected chairmen include Dr Mustapha M. Jibrin of Chanchaga, Usman Manko Mohammad of Bida, and Sayuti Ibrahim Halilu of Agaie, among others,” the statement noted.
APC Wins 271 Out of 274 Councillorship Seats
In addition to sweeping all chairmanship seats, the APC secured victory in 271 out of the 274 councillorship positions contested, leaving only three wards outside its control.
According to the NSIEC statement, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) managed to win two councillorship seats—one each in Tafa and Rafi Local Government Areas.
Commission Urges Transparency and Accountability in Governance
The commission congratulated all elected chairmen and councillors, charging them to uphold transparency, accountability, and a strong commitment to grassroots development in their respective local councils.
Barrister Liman also announced that Certificates of Return would be presented to all elected officials soon, adding that stakeholders would be notified of the exact date for the ceremony.
NSIEC Commends Stakeholders, Reaffirms Credibility
The state electoral body commended security agencies, political parties, the media, election observers, and the electorate for their cooperation in ensuring a peaceful, credible, and hitch-free local government poll.
NSIEC reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining transparent, credible, and inclusive electoral processes across Niger State.
