President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has declared a state of emergency on training facilities for Nigeria’s internal security agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
The decision was disclosed by the Chairman of the National Economic Council (NEC) Ad-hoc Committee on the overhaul of security training institutions and Governor of Enugu State, Peter Mbah, during an on-the-spot assessment of facilities in Lagos.
Mbah, accompanied by Ogun State Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun, former Inspector-General of Police and Secretary of the Committee Alkali Usman Baba, and Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Special Protection Unit (SPU) Olatunji Disu, said the committee has 30 days to submit its report to NEC.

According to him, President Tinubu was concerned about the dilapidated and outdated training infrastructure used to prepare personnel responsible for safeguarding Nigerians.
He noted that the President issued the directive at the last NEC meeting held on October 23, stressing that such obsolete training environments do not reflect his vision of building a $1 trillion economy within the next five years.
