The European-American University (EAU) has strongly disowned claims that it conferred an honorary doctorate on popular Hausa musician and one of Northern Nigeria’s top APC political singers, Dauda Kahutu Rarara, describing the purported award ceremony in Abuja as a “fraudulent event.”

The ceremony, which took place on Saturday at the Nicon Luxury Hotel, drew high-profile attendees including Katsina State Governor Dikko Radda. During the event, individuals who posed as university officials reportedly awarded honorary degrees to Rarara and several others.

In a statement published on its official website, EAU categorically distanced itself from the gathering, insisting that it neither organised the event nor recognised its proceedings.

The university stressed that Rarara and the other named recipients are not listed in its official Register of Graduates, thereby confirming they hold no formal or legitimate connection with the institution.

“European-American University has not conferred any honorary doctorate degrees upon Dauda Kahutu Rarara, Alhaji Ahmed Saleh Jnr, Mustapha Abdullahi Bujawa and Tarela Boroh.

These individuals are not honorands of the university and have no legitimate connection with us,” the statement read.

The university also disclosed that Idris Aliyu, linked to the Abuja gathering, is no longer affiliated with EAU after being found to have falsely presented himself as a member of its governing council.

Similarly, the institution dismissed claims that one Musari Audu Isyaku is its “Northern Nigeria representative”, stressing he has no authority to act on its behalf.

Clarifying misinformation about its leadership and structure, EAU confirmed that its current vice-chancellor is Luca Scotto di Tella de’ Douglas di Castel di Ripa—not Josephine Egbuta as claimed in some quarters.

The institution further emphasised that it is legally registered in France and operates under a royal charter from Uganda’s Kingdom of Bunyoro-Kitara, not Dominica or Panama as previously circulated.

The university announced it would be contacting Nigerian authorities to pursue legal action against the organisers of the fake convocation in order to halt the issuance of fraudulent certificates.
