The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, on Friday declared that the political campaign season has officially begun.
Wike made the announcement during the inauguration of senatorial and local government area (LGA) coordinators of the Rivers State Renewed Hope Ambassadors in Port Harcourt, the state capital.
He praised the coordinators for their dedication to President Bola Tinubu’s reelection, highlighting their efforts despite limited resources.
“Let me thank our leaders here—the coordinators at the local government and electoral district levels, the state and national assembly members, and the elders council—for their support. Support is not by words alone,” Wike said.

“You have shown commitment. Even without your governor present, you continue to support Mr. President and are ready to do everything possible to secure his return in 2027. You have managed yourselves with the resources you have and contributed to Mr. President’s success. I know he is watching your efforts today to identify those truly committed to the Renewed Hope Ambassadors.”
Wike encouraged the group to remain focused despite possible criticism, saying their dedication would attract envy but should not deter them.
“Remember, I told you during Thanksgiving that by January, we would start to play politics. Now the time has come, and politics has begun,” he added.
The inauguration signals the start of organised grassroots mobilization in Rivers State ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
