Turaki-led PDP to Appeal Court Ruling Nullifying Ibadan Convention

The Tanimu Turaki-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has assured its members that the party remains legally intact following a Federal High Court judgment in Ibadan which nullified its national convention.

The assurance was contained in a statement issued on Friday by the party’s national publicity secretary, Ini Ememobong.

An Ibadan federal high court had declined to grant an order of mandamus sought by the party, holding that granting the relief would amount to sitting on appeal over the decisions of courts of coordinate jurisdiction.

Reacting to the ruling, the Turaki-led PDP said it had directed its legal team to immediately file an appeal and take all necessary steps to pursue its case and protect the party’s position.

The faction, which emerged from the Ibadan national convention, said it remained “legally intact and unshaken” while awaiting the determination of appellate courts on the matter.

Ememobong said the judgment would not derail the party’s activities or leadership structure.

“Notwithstanding this judgment, our party remains firmly on course. We urge our members to remain resolute and committed. There is absolutely no cause for alarm,” he said.

The party also reiterated that its Rebirth Movement remains on track despite the court ruling.
