The Rivers State House of Assembly on Thursday failed to resume plenary one week after adjourning its last sitting, heightening uncertainty surrounding the impeachment process initiated against Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
The Assembly, led by Speaker Martin Amaewhule, during its first sitting of the year held last Thursday, commenced impeachment proceedings against the governor and his deputy, Prof. Ngozi Odu, over allegations of gross misconduct.

Following the development, the House adjourned sitting to January 15, 2026.
However, as at the time of filing this report, Daily Post reports that there was no indication that the lawmakers would reconvene at their temporary sitting venue, the conference hall of the Assembly’s legislative quarters along Aba Road, Port Harcourt.
Efforts to obtain clarification from the Chairman of the House Committee on Information, Petitions and Complaints, Eneme George, were unsuccessful as calls and messages sent to him were not returned.
