A former African Democratic Congress (ADC) House of Representatives aspirant in Gombe State, Mohammed Danjuma, popularly known as Garkuwa Babba, has defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Danjuma, who served as National Chairman of the ADC House of Representatives Aspirants Forum, also handed over his political structure to the APC.
He announced his defection on Saturday during a meeting with Gombe State Governor and APC leader, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, at the Gombe Governor’s Lodge in Abuja.
The meeting was also attended by the APC governorship candidate in the state, Jamilu Isiyaku Gwamna, and a party chieftain, Aliyu Mohammed Combat.
Danjuma, a former ADC aspirant for the Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency, said he joined the APC to support Gwamna’s governorship bid and other APC candidates in the 2027 elections.
“I am handing over my structure to the APC and I pledge my total commitment to work for the victory of Dr Jamilu Gwamna and all our candidates. We will begin immediate mass mobilisation across Gombe State,” he said.
The former ADC chieftain attributed his decision to what he described as Governor Yahaya’s “sterling leadership, performance and development record.”

He said the governor’s achievements had strengthened public confidence in the APC and made the party an attractive platform for people committed to the development of Gombe State.
Danjuma said his decision was aimed at aligning with what he described as development-oriented leadership and contributing to the continuation of the gains recorded under the Yahaya administration.
Receiving Danjuma, Governor Yahaya described the defection as a “significant boost” to the APC ahead of the 2027 elections.
The governor said Danjuma’s experience, political network and grassroots support would be valuable to the party and its candidates.
Yahaya also urged APC members to maintain unity and accommodate diverse interests, saying the party’s strength depended on its ability to work together towards common goals.
He stressed the need for peace and stability as the party prepares for the 2027 election.
