Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru has threatened to remove any local government chairman who fails to deliver victory for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 elections.
Nwifuru issued the warning on Wednesday in Abakaliki, the state capital, while inaugurating newly elected chairmen and vice-chairmen of the state’s 13 local government areas.
The governor said any chairman who failed to secure victory for the APC in his or her council would be replaced by a councillor.
“Any chairman who fails to win his council will be removed from office and replaced with a councillor,” Nwifuru said.
He added that the chairmen were aware that the APC was expected to win the state, warning that they would face consequences if they allowed opposition parties to gain ground in their respective areas.
Governor Demands 100% APC Votes
Nwifuru urged the newly inaugurated council chairmen to work towards delivering 100 per cent votes for the APC in the 2027 elections.

He also advised them to avoid unnecessary rivalry with their deputies, while urging the vice-chairmen to maintain a good working relationship with their principals.
Addressing the vice-chairmen, the governor described their positions as “spare tyres inside the car boot,” stressing that they should be prepared to take over only when the substantive chairmen were unable to perform their duties.
He further cautioned them against allowing rumours and bad advice from friends to create conflicts with their chairmen.
Council Chairmen Pledge Support
Speaking on behalf of the newly inaugurated chairmen, Timothy Nwachi, the chairman of Afikpo Local Government Area, thanked the governor and APC stakeholders for the opportunity to serve.
Nwachi pledged that the council chairmen would justify the confidence placed in them and work to ensure a decisive victory for the APC in 2027.
Among those inaugurated were Osborne Umahi, son of the Minister of Works, David Umahi, and Chidi Nwode, brother of Governor Nwifuru’s wife.
