Former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami, has joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and emerged as its governorship candidate for the 2027 election in Gombe State.
Pantami clinched the ticket through voice affirmation during the PDP governorship primary held on Tuesday in Gombe.
The chairman of the PDP electoral panel, Gregory Yenlong, announced the results, saying Pantami scored 16,781 votes in Gombe North, 12,752 in Gombe Central, and 23,422 in Gombe South, giving him a total of 52,955 votes.
Yenlong subsequently presented Pantami for affirmation as the party’s flagbearer for the 2027 governorship race.
Following the announcement, delegates moved a motion for his adoption as candidate, which was seconded and approved by party members at the venue.

In his acceptance speech, Pantami said he entered the race to serve the people of Gombe State and promised to run a government based on fairness and justice if elected.
Pantami is expected to face the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Jamilu Gwamna, in the 2027 governorship election.
Before his defection, Pantami was one of the governorship aspirants under the APC. He later criticised the party’s primary process that produced Gwamna as the consensus candidate, insisting on direct primaries.
He eventually withdrew from the race on the eve of the exercise, citing lack of transparency.
