The British High Commission in Nigeria has commended Lloyd’s Register for its support for emerging Nigerian leaders through the UK Government’s Chevening Scholarship Programme.
Under the partnership, outstanding Nigerian professionals in maritime-related fields can pursue fully funded master’s degrees at leading UK universities.
Lloyd’s Register, a provider of engineering, technology and professional services for the maritime sector, is one of Chevening’s global partners. It sponsors scholarships for candidates from Nigeria and other African countries whose studies align with the maritime industry.
Chevening is the UK Government’s global scholarship programme, funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) and partner organisations, including Lloyd’s Register. It supports one-year taught master’s degrees at UK universities for people with demonstrable potential to become leaders, decision-makers and opinion formers.
The programme began in 1983. Scholars come from more than 140 countries and territories, and the more than 60,000 alumni worldwide form an influential global network.
Investing in future leaders
The British Deputy High Commissioner in Lagos, Mr. Jonny Baxter, said the partnership would help nurture Nigerians with the potential to drive positive change in the sector.
“We are delighted to continue our partnership with Lloyd’s Register to support outstanding Nigerians with the potential to lead and drive positive change in the maritime sector. Together, we are investing in future leaders who will strengthen innovation, sustainability, and growth across the industry,” he said.

Proud partnership
The Business Director for Africa at Lloyd’s Register, Mr. Goz Gwam, said the partnership helps the company connect with talented people whose aspirations support national development.
