On October 25, the party announced a 13-member National Convention Screening Committee led by former Ondo State governorship candidate and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Eyitayo Jegede, to screen aspirants for various national offices.

The exercise was initially slated for Tuesday, October 28, before the latest postponement.

The development came shortly after former Jigawa State Governor, Sule Lamido, declared his intention to contest for the position of national chairman.

His declaration followed reports that some northern PDP leaders had endorsed former Minister Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN, as their consensus candidate for the seat.

However, the move has sparked disagreement within the party, with factions loyal to Lamido and former Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, rejecting Turaki’s endorsement, describing it as a product of inadequate consultation.
