FG Rolls Out Food Security Interventions to Tackle Hunger – Minister

The Federal Government says it has launched several intervention programmes to ease the ongoing food crisis and boost agricultural productivity across the country.
Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Abubakar Kyari, stated this on Monday in Akure during the distribution of farm inputs to local farmers.
Kyari explained that the programmes aim to tackle the root causes of food insecurity while supporting farmers to improve yields. He said the current administration is implementing bold economic reforms to stimulate production, create jobs, and reduce the cost of living.
Represented by the ministry’s Director of Extension, Ayodele Olawumi, the minister reaffirmed President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to making food security a top national priority.

“In line with the Renewed Hope Agenda, President Tinubu declared a state of emergency on food security in July 2023,” Kyari said. “Since then, we have reviewed all existing agricultural initiatives to align them with our core mandate and improve results.”
He added that the ministry has introduced short-term measures to make essential farm inputs more affordable and accessible under a transparent distribution system. According to him, these interventions will raise food production, stabilise prices, and ensure that Nigerians have steady access to quality food.
Kyari also stressed that the government’s agricultural reforms align with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), emphasizing the administration’s long-term commitment to rural empowerment and sustainable growth.
In his remarks, the Ondo State Coordinator of the ministry, Sunday Ojo, said the initiative aims to empower smallholder farmers, who form the backbone of the state’s economy.

“Providing farmers with quality seeds, fertilizers, and agrochemicals will increase yields, enhance livelihoods, and strengthen food systems,” Ojo said.
Farmers’ associations, including the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) and the Small-Scale Women Farmers Organisation in Nigeria (SWOFON), commended the government for prioritising their welfare.
Some of the distributed inputs included power tillers, knapsack sprayers, water pumps, Pesti Zyme, dehydrators, and Ultimax Plus.
