In a major move set to solidify Nigeria’s position as the industrial powerhouse of the continent, Dangote Industries Limited has signed a landmark $800 million agreement with Chinese engineering giant Sinoma International Engineering Co. Ltd.
The deal aims to double the production capacity of the Dangote Cement plant in Itori, Ogun State, marking one of the largest recent investments in Nigeria’s manufacturing sector.
Doubling Capacity for Domestic and Export Markets
The memorandum of understanding (MoU), formally executed by Dangote Group President Aliko Dangote and Sinoma Chairman Lin Zhong in Lagos, will elevate the Itori plant’s annual installed capacity from 6 million to 12 million metric tonnes.
This ambitious expansion is designed to achieve a dual mandate: fulfilling local infrastructure needs and driving continental exports
Analysts believe that the increased output will help meet escalating domestic demand, directly supporting the Nigerian federal government’s renewed policy of prioritizing concrete for national road construction.
Upon completion, the expanded Itori facility is expected to serve as a primary export terminal. By leveraging the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), Dangote Cement is positioning Nigeria to supply cement-deficient nations across Africa, generating vital foreign exchange revenue.

Vision 2030 and Economic Impact
Aliko Dangote described the $800 million investment as a “bold step” in strengthening Nigeria’s industrial base. The expansion is a vital component of Dangote Cement’s broader “Vision 2030,” which targets an annual production output of 90 million to 100 million metric tonnes across all its operations.
“This project reflects our unwavering confidence in the Nigerian economy and our determination to contribute meaningfully to economic growth, job creation, and regional trade across Africa.” Aliko Dangote stated.
Sinoma Chairman Lin Zhong echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the deployment of “world-class engineering expertise” to ensure the facility meets the highest global standards. The sustained partnership between Dangote and Sinoma continues to produce some of the most modern and efficient manufacturing facilities on the continent, fostering deeper economic ties between Africa and China.
