Global Stocks Rise as U.S.–China Trade Optimism Lifts Markets, Gold Falls

Global stock markets climbed on Monday, buoyed by renewed optimism over progress in U.S.–China trade talks, while gold and bonds fell as investors shifted toward riskier assets.

Top economic officials from both countries reached a preliminary trade deal framework ahead of a meeting between Presidents Donald Trump and Xi Jinping in South Korea later this week.

The potential deal, which may pause steeper U.S. tariffs and ease China’s rare earth export controls, boosted investor confidence across global markets.

Europe’s STOXX 600 index gained 0.1%, tracking sharp rallies in Asian markets. In the U.S., stock futures surged, with Nasdaq futures up 1.4% and S&P 500 futures rising 0.9%. Analysts say markets are responding positively to signs of easing tensions between the world’s two largest economies.

The Chinese yuan strengthened to its highest level in over a month, while the dollar stayed firm against the yen. Gold slipped 2% to $4,028 per ounce as risk appetite grew.

Investors are also turning attention to key central bank meetings this week in the U.S., Japan, Canada, and Europe.

The Federal Reserve is expected to cut interest rates by 25 basis points following weaker inflation data.
