Filling Station, Vehicles Razed as Inferno Rocks Saki Community

A sudden fire outbreak on Monday engulfed a petrol station and destroyed several properties in the Ago-Omoluabi area of Saki, Oyo State, sparking panic among residents and business owners in the bustling commercial town.

Witnesses said thick smoke was first seen billowing into the sky before loud explosions followed, sending fuel attendants and passersby fleeing for safety as the flames spread rapidly.

Efforts by residents and Good Samaritans to contain the blaze proved unsuccessful, as the inferno powered through the station like a harmattan-driven fire. A pickup van and other valuables within the premises were also consumed.

It took the swift intervention of operatives of the Oyo State Fire Service to prevent the fire from extending to nearby buildings and causing wider damage in the densely populated neighbourhood.

Akinwande urged residents, particularly business owners dealing with flammable materials, to install functional fire extinguishers and adopt strict safety practices to prevent avoidable disasters.

He also commended the police and other emergency responders for their prompt action.
