Vice-presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has stated that the APC’s control of about 31 states does not guarantee President Bola Tinubu’s victory in the 2027 presidential election.
Kwankwaso made the comment on Thursday in Port Harcourt during a town hall meeting where he and NDC presidential candidate Peter Obi addressed voters.
He cited the 2015 election, when then-President Goodluck Jonathan lost his re-election bid to Muhammadu Buhari despite the PDP controlling about 20 states at the time.

According to Kwankwaso, Buhari won 21 states, including 11 that were controlled by the PDP.
“Jonathan was the sitting president, and he lost the election. Those who think that because they have over 30 governors they cannot lose are making a very big mistake,” he said.
The former Kano governor also criticised some governors, particularly in northern Nigeria, accusing them of poor performance and lack of meaningful development.
He urged Nigerians to make the right political choice in 2027, saying the country needs a “committed, strong and vibrant president” to address its challenges.
