Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has filed a fresh ₦10 billion lawsuit against the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) over the alleged denial of access to his wife and son while he was in custody.
The suit, filed by his lawyer, Ubong Akpan, at the Federal High Court in Abuja, also named the ICPC Chairman and the Attorney-General of the Federation as the second and third defendants.
The originating motion, marked FHC/ABJ/CS/1852/2026, was filed on August 13, 2026.
El-Rufai is asking the court to declare that his fundamental rights under Part IV of the 1999 Constitution remain valid and enforceable despite his detention by the commission.
According to the suit, the former governor alleged that ICPC repeatedly prevented his wife, Aichatou Asabe, and his son, Abba El-Rufai, from visiting him while he was in custody.
He claimed that the alleged denial of access prevented his family from providing him with food, medication and other necessities without any lawful justification or court order.

El-Rufai further alleged that the action violated his rights to dignity and private and family life as guaranteed by the Constitution and the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights.
He also accused ICPC officers of physically restraining and intimidating his wife and son on July 7, describing the alleged incident as unlawful interference with his family relationships.
The former governor is asking the court to declare the continued denial of access to his family unconstitutional, illegal, null and void.
The suit contains nine reliefs, including a demand for ₦10 billion in compensation over the alleged violations of his fundamental rights.
