Former Kano State governor and 2027 Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) vice-presidential candidate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, has congratulated Governor Ademola Adeleke on his victory in the election held on Saturday.
Kwankwaso also praised the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the conduct of the Osun State governorship election.
In a statement posted on his verified Facebook page on Sunday, the Kwankwasiyya movement leader described the result as a reaffirmation of the mandate of the people of Osun State.
He commended voters in the state for participating in the electoral process and exercising their democratic rights.
“As a leader of the opposition and a committed democrat, I commend the people of Osun State for exercising their democratic rights and reaffirming the power of the people’s mandate,” Kwankwaso said.
He added, “I congratulate my friend, His Excellency, Senator Ademola Adeleke, Governor of Osun State and candidate of the Accord Party, on his victory in the 15 August 2026 Osun State Governorship Election.”

Kwankwaso said the outcome showed that citizens who participate in the democratic process could ensure that their will prevailed.
He also urged political parties, INEC and other stakeholders to continue to support credible, peaceful and transparent elections.
INEC declared Adeleke the winner in the early hours of Sunday after he secured 511,067 votes.
His closest challenger, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Oyebamiji, polled 444,815 votes.
Adeleke won in 19 of the 30 local government areas in the state, while Oyebamiji secured 11.
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate, Najeem Salaam, finished third with 17,180 votes.
