The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has formally closed its Situation Room for the 2026 Osun State governorship election following the conclusion of the poll and declaration of the result in the early hours of Sunday.

INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, announced the closure on Sunday while addressing officials at the Situation Room.

Amupitan Commends INEC Staff

Amupitan praised staff of the Commission for their dedication, professionalism and sacrifice throughout the electoral process.

He commended personnel at the national headquarters, Osun State and local government offices, as well as officials deployed to polling units and members of the technical teams.

The INEC chairman noted that many staff worked for long hours and sacrificed time with their families to ensure the election was successfully conducted.

He also attributed the peaceful conduct of the election to the grace and protection of Almighty God.

Osun Election Lessons for 2027

Amupitan described the Osun governorship election as a milestone rather than a destination, saying the experience would help shape INEC’s preparations for the 2027 general elections.

He urged staff to remain vigilant, transparent, professional and neutral in carrying out their responsibilities.

“Let us learn from our experience, refine our strategies and approach the upcoming national task with renewed vigour and absolute neutrality. Let us remain steadfast in our duty, knowing that we are the gatekeepers of our nation’s democracy,” he said.

The chairman thereafter formally declared the #OsunDecides2026 Situation Room closed, ending INEC’s central monitoring and oversight operations for the governorship election.
