The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) says its organs will meet today, November 22, to determine the next line of action as its one-month ultimatum to the Federal Government over the unresolved crisis in universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education expires.
NLC’s acting Secretary-General, Benson Upah, confirmed the development in a brief chat with Newsmen, stressing that the Congress remains committed to restoring industrial harmony across tertiary institutions.

“In keeping with our pledge and in pursuance of our unflagging commitment to the noble causes of unions in tertiary institutions, the appropriate organs of Congress will meet and decide on the next line of action. You’ll be duly informed,” he said.
The NLC had issued a 30-day ultimatum in October after academic unions including ASUU, ASUP, and COEASU raised the alarm over unresolved disputes ranging from withheld salaries and unpaid revitalisation funds to stalled renegotiation of agreements with the Federal Government.

Despite several meetings, the issues have lingered, heightening fears of another round of industrial action that could disrupt academic activities nationwide.
Today’s meeting by the NLC will determine whether labour escalates its pressure or adopts a fresh negotiation route with the government.
