Family Gives Defence Minister 7 Days to Prove Claim that ex-Kaduna governor planned killings in Southern Kaduna
The family of former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has given the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (retd.), seven days to provide evidence backing his allegation that the former governor actively planned killings in Southern Kaduna.
The family made the demand in a statement issued on Monday, September 7, 2026, and signed by Hon. Mohammed Bello El-Rufai on behalf of the family.
The statement followed comments made by Musa during a live edition of Politics Today on Channels Television on September 3, 2026.
During the programme, the Defence Minister alleged that El-Rufai, who also served as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, actively planned killings in Southern Kaduna while he was governor of Kaduna State.
Family Demands Evidence
The El-Rufai family described the allegation as a grave claim, stressing that it was made without any evidence being presented to support it.
The family said while Musa was entitled to his personal opinion, it was equally entitled to demand credible evidence for such a serious allegation.

“In the absence of such evidence, we call on him to publicly retract the allegation through the same medium on which it was made,” the statement said.
The family therefore demanded that the minister either substantiate the allegation or withdraw it and apologise publicly.
Seven-day Ultimatum
According to the statement, Musa has seven days from September 7 to provide evidence supporting the allegation or issue a full public retraction and apology.
The family warned that failure to comply would result in legal action.
“Failure to do so will leave the family with no option but to pursue all appropriate legal remedies available under the law in response to these unsubstantiated allegations,” it said.
El-Rufai served as governor of Kaduna State from 2015 to 2023 after previously serving as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.
