NUPRC Honours Okoro, Restates Commitment to Workers’ Welfare

The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) has paid tribute to the late former president of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN), Comrade Uche Marcus Okoro, hailing his leadership qualities and dedication to the plight of Nigerian oil workers.

Comrade Okoro was one of the passengers who died in the Sosoliso plane crash that occurred on December 10, 2005.

In a condolence message in commemoration of the 20th anniversary of the passing of Comrade Okoro, NUPRC said the late union leader was so committed to the welfare of Nigerian oil workers that PENGASSAN named its national headquarters after him as “U.M. Okoro House.”

In the statement issued by Eniola Akinkuotu, Head, Media and Strategic Communication, NUPRC, noted that “Comrade Okoro remains the only person to have been President of both PENGASSAN and the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG), a testament to his sterling leadership qualities.”

The Commission seized the opportunity to restate its commitment to staff welfare and development.

The NUPRC commiserated with the family of the deceased unionist and prayed that God continues to strengthen the wife and children he left behind.
