Troops Apprehend Suspected Drug Dealers, Recover Illicit Substances in Plateau

Troops from the 3 Division/Joint Task Force Operation Enduring Peace (JTF OPEP) have arrested 25 suspected drug dealers and seized various illicit substances in a raid on Layin Sabon Kasuwa, in the Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The operation, carried out during intelligence-led surveillance, uncovered a hideout thought to be used by criminal elements involved in the illegal trade of drugs. Among the recovered items were substances believed to be Cannabis sativa and other unknown illicit drugs.

Major Samson Zhakom, Media and Information Officer of JTF OPEP, speaking from Jos, stated that the detainees are currently in military custody and will be handed over to relevant law enforcement agencies for possible prosecution.

This recent crackdown follows reports of an illegal arms-weapons manufacturing plant earlier located elsewhere in Plateau State, illustrating continuing efforts by the troops to dismantle networks linked to violent crime and social vices.

Major Zhakom further emphasised the commitment of 3 Division/JTF OPEP to engage in partnership with other security and administrative agencies to address crimes that fuel instability in the Joint Operation Area (JOA). “We will not relent in targeting crime, prosecuting offenders, and restoring peace,” he said.
