The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has said his administration would prioritise the rehabilitation of existing infrastructure over the construction of new roads and buildings if elected in the 2027 presidential election.
Obi made the statement in an interview with Arise Television aired on Thursday.
He said his administration would not embark on constructing new buildings or extensions for the President, the First Lady or other government officials while existing infrastructure remained in need of attention.

“So, you’re not going to see the building of new guest houses, the building of anything. In fact, no new building. No new building,” Obi said.
He added that the government would first fix existing roads before embarking on the construction of new ones.
“We’ll fix the existing roads before building new ones.
“We’re not going to start building new extensions for the president or for the wife or for anybody. We will fix what is existing,” he said.
Obi said the approach would be part of his administration’s effort to prioritise the efficient use of public resources and address infrastructure deficiencies across the country.
