Nigerian Army Dismantles Illegal Weapons Factory in Plateau

Troops of the Nigerian Army have uncovered and dismantled an illegal arms manufacturing factory in Heipang District, Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State, raising hopes for improved security in the troubled North-Central region.
The operation, conducted on Wednesday by soldiers of the 3 Division/Joint Task Force Operation Enduring Peace, followed actionable intelligence on a syndicate allegedly involved in the production and distribution of locally fabricated weapons.

In a statement, Maj. Samson Zhakom, Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations for 3 Division, confirmed that one suspect was apprehended at the site, while several others fled before the troops arrived.
During a search of the facility, the soldiers recovered 12 locally-made rifles, a fabricated pistol, 19 rounds of PKT ammunition, 12 cartridges, 10 rounds of 7.62mm (Special) ammunition, 10 rounds of 9mm ammunition, four rounds of 7.62mm (NATO), and one round of QJC ammunition.
Other items seized included a smoke grenade, two fragmental jackets, a Motorola hand-held radio, a jack knife, and a bucket filled with assorted medicines.

According to the Army spokesperson, the suspect and the recovered items are currently in custody for further investigation, while efforts are underway to track down the fleeing members of the syndicate.
Maj. Zhakom assured residents that the Nigerian Army remains resolute in its mission to rid Plateau State and the wider North-Central region of illegal arms, stressing that such operations are crucial to restoring peace and stability.
