The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has killed dozens of terrorists and destroyed a key stronghold in Borno State. The operation was carried out on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, at Bula Madibale in the Gezuwa area.
Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, NAF spokesperson, confirmed the strikes in a statement released on Thursday. He said the raid followed credible intelligence that showed unusual movement in the area.
“About 45 terrorists gathered at the location, with some arriving on motorcycles and bicycles from different directions,” Ejodame said.
Surveillance also showed two terrorist flags flying at the site. NAF identified the location as a rallying point and acted quickly. Around 10:50 a.m., fighter jets launched precision strikes, destroying the flagged structure and other assets.

“The strikes eliminated several terrorists at the gathering point, while the hideout and equipment were reduced to rubble,” Ejodame added.
NAF explained that the operation aimed to deny insurgents freedom of movement and block plans for attacks on nearby towns.
“This mission underscores our resolve to prevent terrorists from threatening innocent lives. The Armed Forces remain fully committed to restoring peace and stability, particularly in the North East,” Ejodame assured.
The latest strikes form part of ongoing ground and air operations across the Lake Chad Basin.
Security experts believe the precision attack shows improved coordination between intelligence and air assets, unlike earlier years when civilians sometimes suffered casualties.

Despite these gains, analysts warn that Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters continue to exploit difficult terrain and porous borders to regroup.
Since 2009, the insurgency has claimed more than 35,000 lives and displaced over two million people, according to UN figures. Communities across Borno, Adamawa, and Yobe remain at the frontline of Nigeria’s 16-year war against terrorism.
