UK Jewellery Retailer Claire Faces Insolvency, 2,150 Jobs at Risk

The UK arm of popular jewellery retailer Claire’s is on the brink of collapse, with more than 2,150 jobs now in jeopardy after the company confirmed it is set to enter administration.

Claire’s Accessories UK Ltd, which operates 306 stores across the UK and Ireland, has filed a notice of intention to appoint administrators at the High Court. This step marks the beginning of a formal insolvency process and comes amid mounting financial challenges.

Known for its trend-led accessories and as a go-to destination for ear piercings, Claire’s has been a fixture of the UK high street for decades.

CEO Chris Cramer said the decision was difficult but necessary: “This decision, while difficult, is part of our broader effort to protect the long-term value of Claire’s across all markets.”

Interpath to Oversee Administration

Insolvency practitioners from Interpath are expected to be appointed as joint administrators in the coming days.

Interpath UK CEO Will Wright said the company will try to keep the business running while seeking a buyer: “Over the coming weeks, we will endeavour to continue to operate all stores as a going concern for as long as we can while we assess options for the company. This includes exploring the possibility of a sale which would secure a future for this well-loved brand.”

Despite the looming administration, Claire’s UK has confirmed that all 306 stores will remain open and employees will stay in their positions during the process. However, the uncertainty leaves thousands of staff and customers anxiously awaiting news on the retailer’s fate.
