NiMet Warns of Dust Haze, Rain, Flood Risk Across Nigeria

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast mixed weather conditions, including dust haze, rainfall, and possible flooding, across parts of the country from Monday to Wednesday.

In its three-day weather outlook released Sunday in Abuja, NiMet predicted slight dust haze with good visibility over Borno, Zamfara, northern Kaduna, Yobe, Jigawa, Kano, and Katsina States on Monday. It also projected isolated thunderstorms and light rain in parts of Taraba and Adamawa States during the afternoon and evening hours.

For the North Central region, NiMet expects sunny skies with patches of clouds, with chances of isolated thunderstorms and light rain over the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nasarawa, and Kogi States later in the day.

According to the agency, the southern states will experience cloudy conditions in the morning, followed by thunderstorms with moderate rainfall later in the afternoon and evening across Imo, Abia, Ebonyi, Ondo, Osun, Lagos, Ekiti, Ogun, Edo, Bayelsa, Delta, Rivers, and Akwa Ibom States.

The agency also cautioned motorists to avoid driving through flooded areas and called on people with respiratory conditions such as asthma to limit outdoor activities due to dust particles expected in the northern region.

On Tuesday, NiMet predicted that dust haze would persist in the northern states, while Taraba and Adamawa could witness isolated thunderstorms and light rainfall.
Sunny skies with intermittent clouds are expected over the central region, with morning thunderstorms likely in Benue and later moderate rain across the FCT, Nasarawa, and Kogi States.

The southern region will remain cloudy, with moderate rainfall in Rivers, Cross River, Ebonyi, and Akwa Ibom in the morning, intensifying later in the day.
